Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) is hovering around $115,000 one day ahead of the much-anticipated interest rate decision <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/crypto/cryptocurrency/25/09/47682976/bitcoin-flat-as-fed-policy-meet-looms-ethereum-dogecoin-xrp-decline-analyst-flags-support-where-they-plan-to-load-heavily-on-eth">by the Federal Reserve</a>.



What Happened: Santiment <a href="https://x.com/santimentfeed/status/1967883713653719183?s=46">data</a> on Tuesday noted that a 25-basis points rate cut is widely expected. 



Bitcoin's social sentiment has turned sharply bullish, with 64% of comments leaning positive, the highest greed levels since July 10.



While this reflects strong optimism, history shows markets often move against retail expectations, suggesting traders should temper hopes of a major post-cut surge. 



However, this does not imply that Bitcoin and altcoins are due for a correction. 



If the Fed surprises by holding rates steady, a sharp correction could catch bullish investors off guard.



In an X post on Sep. 12, Santiment data also <a href="https://x.com/santimentfeed/status/1966297769255096491">pointed</a> out that in late August 2025, Bitcoin rallied on expectations of rate cuts, but history shows that when optimism peaks, buying power dries up and prices often fall. 



This pattern repeats as retail traders, prone to chasing headlines, drive sentiment, while whales usually take the opposite side. 



Once the hype fades, markets tend to move against the crowd, rewarding contrarian investors who anticipate these reactions.

Trader Degen Hardy offered a more balanced outlook, noting two main scenarios into the FOMC: either Bitcoin holds its range/sideways, providing room for altcoins to run or it risks losing key support.



Hardy added that he is not adding to his BTC stack, preferring to focus on altcoin trades into year-end with plans to scale out profits in the next 2–3 months.

Bitcoin Sees 64% Bullish Sentiment—But Federal Reserve Meeting Looms Ominously

Dogecoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/doge/usd">DOGE</a>) is holding around 26 cents, with traders charting a path for the meme coin depending on the upcoming interest rate decision by <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/25/09/47684062/ahead-of-fed-rate-meeting-blackrock-remains-risk-on-us-equities-despite-sticky-core-inflation">the Federal Reserve</a>.



What Happened: In an update on Patreon, prominent analyst Kevin said that DOGE has once again tested the top of its rising channel and golden pocket. 



This marks the third test this year. DOGE remains within the golden pocket, with key daily support at $0.2616, aligning with the 0.618 Fib level.



He expects sideways action until Wednesday's FOMC announcement, where a rate cut and Chair Powell's policy guidance are expected to shape Q4 sentiment. 



On the 4-hour chart, DOGE shows immediate support at $0.2616, $0.2586, and $0.2546, while a broader support range spans $0.2455–$0.2272, covering major moving averages and additional Fib retracements.



Dogecoin has been one of the stronger performers leading into the event, but Kevin expects muted price action until the Fed's plans for Q4 are clarified.

What Happened: Speaking on CNBC as Fundstrat marked its 11th anniversary on Monday, Lee described the market as "mid-cycle" rather than late-stage. 



While the so-called "Magnificent 7" stocks and AI remain in play, he sees rate cuts as the real catalyst for the next leg higher.



 "The Fed can actually reinject confidence by saying we're back into an easing cycle," Lee said, adding that a shift lower in borrowing costs would restore liquidity and business expansion.



If history is any guide, Lee argued, the setup mirrors September 1998 and September 2024—periods when the Fed pivoted after long pauses. 



His top trades: the Nasdaq 100, Bitcoin and Ethereum, and interest-rate sensitive small caps and financials. 



For crypto in particular, Lee sees a &#8220;monster move in the next three months.&#8221;

The sustainability question matters significantly given digital asset treasuries&#8217; market influence, with these companies now holding &#8220;4.0% of all BTC, 3.1% of ETH and 0.8% of SOL,&#8221; making their success &#8220;crucial for coin prices,&#8221; according to Kendrick&#8217;s <a href="https://decrypt.co/339462/ethereum-treasuries-highest-probability-being-sustainable-standard-chartered">analysis</a>.

Jack Dorsey, co-founder and CEO of Block Inc. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">&#8216;Exciting&#8217; Unlock For Square Sellers</h2>



Dorsey took to X, saying, "Help us turn your local square seller onto Bitcoin," continuing on an ongoing discussion over the point-of-sale system&#8217;s Bitcoin payment initiative.



Dorsey quoted a post from Aaron Hammer, senior software engineer at Square, who invited Square merchants for early access to test out the payment functionality.



"It's an extremely exciting unlock for our sellers with a focused and world class team behind it," Hammer said.



The functionality was currently in the final stages of testing and on track, according to an X user identifying as Block's Bitcoin Design Lead.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Risk Appetite Dims Ahead Of Fed Meet</h2>



Bitcoin crawled in the $115,000 region for much of the day, although trading volume shot up 52% in the 24-hour period. Ethereum was also rangebound, bouncing within a narrow range between $4,470 and $4,500.



Bitcoin's dominance fell to 57.5%, while Ethereum's market share rose marginally to 13.7%.&nbsp;



Over $400 million was liquidated from the cryptocurrency market in the last 24 hours, with $330 million in long positions wiped out.



Bitcoin&#8217;s open interest experienced a modest gain of 0.02% in the last 24 hours, while funds locked in Ethereum derivatives rose 1.60%. The majority of Binance traders with open BTC positions were long, according to the Long/Short ratio.



The market sentiment remained "Neutral," according to the Crypto Fear &amp; Greed Index.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Progress In US-China Trade Talks</h2>



Stocks rallied on Monday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 49.23 points, or 0.1%, to end at 45,883.45. The S&amp;P 500 climbed 0.5% to 6,615.28, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite closed up 0.9% at 22,348.75.



Trump said in a Truth Social <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115208260926006345">post </a>that the trade meeting between the U.S. and China went "very well," adding that a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/tech/25/09/47682964/trump-hints-tiktok-deal-may-finally-be-complete-but-gop-china-hawks-demand-bytedance-disinvestment-a">deal was reached on a company</a> "that young people in our Country very much wanted to save," potentially referring to TikTok.

The Federal Reserve is set to <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/economic-data/25/09/47640392/with-a-fed-rate-cut-on-the-horizon-experts-say-these-3-asset-classes-could-be-game-changers-for-your-portfolio">decide on the interest rates</a> on Wednesday, with traders pricing in a 95.9% chance that the central bank would cut rates by 0.25%, <a href="https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/interest-rates/cme-fedwatch-tool.html">according</a> to the CME FedWatch tool.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Key Ethereum Level To Watch Out For</h2>



On-chain analytics firm CryptoQuant noticed that the Bitcoin Scarcity Index jumped for the first time since June.



"The index jumps when immediate buying power exceeds available supply, as if buyers are racing to acquire Bitcoin on the market," CryptoQuant added.&nbsp;



If the index continues to stay positive for consecutive days, it typically indicates the start of a "strong accumulation phase" and may assist the continuation of the uptrend.

Widely followed cryptocurrency commentator Ted Pillows highlighted Ethereum's strong support around $3,800-$4,000.

Bitcoin Flat As Fed Policy Meet Looms; Ethereum, Dogecoin, XRP Decline: Analyst Flags Support Where They Plan To 'Load Heavily' On ETH

Under the current market regime, rising short interest always attracts eyeballs. In theory, an accumulation of bearish pressure represents an awful harbinger for the targeted security. However, these short traders risk the underlying asset moving in the wrong-to-them direction, which is northward. Interestingly, though, relatively very few speculators want a piece of the short action against Strategy Inc (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MSTR#NASDAQ">MSTR</a>). For contrarian investors, this dynamic could be a compelling opportunity.



Usually, the prospect of <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/what-is-a-short-squeeze">short squeezes</a> offers an intuitive argument for bullish speculators. Under a typical transaction, investors initiate a position in a security by buying to open. However, short traders initiate their speculative activity by selling to open. These shares were first loaned out by a broker, which means that at some point, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/options/25/09/47652351/qbts-stock-quantum-computing-short-squeeze">bearish speculators must return the borrowed securities</a>.



For a short trade to be profitable, then, the underlying stock must fall in value. Later, the bears buy back the securities on discount and return them to the broker, pocketing the difference. But either way, the return of borrowed assets must happen. Therefore, if the targeted security shoots higher, short traders have a difficult decision to make.



Obviously, the prudent ones cut their losses early. However, to close a short position, the transaction involves buying to close. That's what creates the short squeeze.

With MSTR stock, the security — which effectively operates as a proxy for the cryptocurrency market — previously witnessed <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/MSTR/short-interest">sky-high short interest</a>, particularly during 2022 and 2023. However, a strong run last year, followed up by an impressive performance this year, has apparently led to an unwillingness to short Strategy.



Between January 2021 to September 2025, the correlation coefficient between the short interest of MSTR stock and its price action sits at -0.796. That's a strong inverse relationship, indicating that the bears simply don't want any of this smoke.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">MSTR Stock Also Attracts Bargain Hunters</h2>



If the declining short interest rate wasn't enough to convince you about MSTR stock, its buy-the-dip tendencies may be the ultimate temptation. Quantitatively, MSTR in the past 10 weeks has printed four up weeks (defined as the return from Monday's open to Friday's close) and six down weeks, with an overall downward trajectory. For classification, we can call this a 4-6-D sequence.



Under an intuitive framework, the balance of distributive sessions being greater than accumulative would warrant caution. However, for MSTR stock, the red ink tends to attract bargain hunters. Using in-sample data that runs from January 2019 to July 2025, the drift stemming from the flashing of the 4-6-D sequence may carry the stock between approximately $341 to $391.



Assuming no special mispricing, the aggregate or baseline drift would be expected to carry MSTR between approximately $318 to $351. In other words, investors generally view MSTR's volatility as a chance to load up the boat at a cheaper rate. Further, without bearish traders actively betting against Strategy, it's possible that MSTR may have a less-contested swing upward.

However, it's important to account for exogenous factors and even outright coincidences. To better determine if the 4-6-D sequence has predictive power, I ran an out-of-sample test, specifically targeting the dataset between 2021 through 2023. In this manner, I capture trading behaviors largely outside of the extreme boom periods of late 2020 and the years 2024 and 2025 to date.



What I discovered is that the 4-6-D sequence tends to signal an upward swing in the latter weeks. Since this phenomenon is observed in both boom periods and non-boom periods, my conclusion is that the sequence offers predictive power. Therefore, a bullish posture toward MSTR stock — despite the current weakness where it has lost 12% in the trailing month — makes sense.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Tempting Offer On The Table</h2>



Because market makers are evaluating their probabilistic expectations based on stochastic (continuous, assumption-driven) models rather than empiric (discrete, evidence-driven) models — such as the methodology I use — the asking price for various strategies is all over the map. I would argue that there's considerable mispricing here.

In my opinion, the options strategy that makes the most sense is the 350/360 bull call spread expiring Oct. 31. This transaction involves buying the $350 call and simultaneously selling the $360 call, for a net debit paid of $395 (the most that can be lost in the trade).



Should MSTR stock rise through the second-leg strike price ($360) at expiration, the maximum profit is $605, a payout of over 153%. Breakeven comes in at $353.95.



On paper and without any other context, anticipating a nearly 11% move over the next seven weeks may seem aggressive. However, because of Strategy's crypto-proxy play, I don't find the threshold to profitability unreasonable. It would also seem that the bears feel the same way.

XRP Holds At $3 As First Spot XRP ETF Set To Debut This Week

Pantera Capital founder Dan Morehead on Monday announced plans for a Solana-focused digital asset treasury company to be listed on Nasdaq as he expects the structural Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) bull market <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/money/bitcoin-price-prediction">to stay intact.</a>



What Happened: The new treasury company will provide direct exposure to Solana (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/sol/usd">SOL</a>) without leverage, addressing a gap in retail access since &#8220;it&#8217;s very difficult for normal investor to get access to Solana,&#8221; Morehead said during a CNBC Squawk Box <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-2i0GFKQng">interview</a>.



The structure will capture staking yields of approximately 7% annually, which individual investors often struggle to access due to technical complexity.



Pantera currently holds $1.1 billion worth of Solana across its funds, representing the firm&#8217;s largest position. Morehead highlighted Solana&#8217;s technical advantages, stating it &#8220;could do 9 billion transactions a day.&#8221;



When pressed about competition between blockchains, Morehead rejected winner-take-all scenarios.

Despite launching a Solana treasury company, Morehead remains bullish on Bitcoin&#8217;s long-term prospects. 



Drawing on 12 years of experience, he observed that Bitcoin has &#8220;roughly doubled every year&#8221; and expects this trend to continue.



&#8220;I think it could go up to $750,000 in the next four or five years,&#8221; Morehead predicted, citing Bitcoin&#8217;s &#8220;very low single digit percentage of global wealth&#8221; as justification for continued growth. 



While not expecting Bitcoin to reach $1 million in the near term, he suggested it could happen &#8220;in our lifetimes.&#8221;



The treasury company represents an evolution in crypto access methods. Morehead noted that Pantera &#8220;launched the first Bitcoin fund in the world&#8221; when direct purchase was difficult, but now &#8220;an ETF is very easy&#8221; for Bitcoin exposure.

What Happened: Glassnode <a href="https://x.com/glassnode/status/1967609388685991958">data</a> highlights strong momentum in the spot market, with the relative strength index entering overbought territory.



Futures markets reflected higher activity, open interest climbed and buy-side flows picked up, yet weaker funding rates tempered demand for longs, the firm detailed in its latest report.



Options activity mirrored this cautious backdrop: open interest expanded, but volatility spreads and skew declined, signalling reduced hedging and more complacency.



On-chain metrics show that speculative short-term activity increased slightly, while long-term holder structure remained stable.

That pushed weekly flows positive, underscoring renewed institutional appetite as Bitcoin consolidates above $114,000.



The CoinMarketCap Crypto Fear and Greed Index dropped from Greed to Neutral in just two days, highlighting the market's cautious mood despite institutional inflows.
